Urban Green wins Silver Medal at the Chelsea Flower Show May 30, 2012
Urban Green: Linking Ecosystems to Social Systems highlighted the potential for communities and individuals to improve their urban environment by growing food and plants which promote biodiversity, and reclaiming the wasted spaces in our cities.
The exhibit was made up entirely of reclaimed materials which were re-purposed into raised beds, a plastic bottle green house, a seed swap trolley and an interactive map showing existing green ideas and initiatives in London and also giving people an opportunity to add their own. The plants were grown by people working with Roots and Shoots in London and also Cripley Meadow Allotments in Oxford.
ASF-UK also collaborated with Friends of the Earth on their Bee Cause campaign and they donated thousands of bee friendly seeds for us to hand out, the Secret Seed Society, Pimp your Pavement, the Chelsea Fringe, Edible Bus Stop, Spitalfields City Farm, River of Flowers, Bill Flowers, City Farms and Community Gardens and Dorset Road Allotments. At the end of the show the plants are going to Roots and Shoots and the installation is being donated toGroundwork.
