Dr. Sharma is trained as a development planner, with a specialisation in environmental management. He has over sixteen years of experience, coordinating work at community level, training practitioners, interacting with governments and international agencies, and coordinating inter-agency efforts in the area of environmental and disaster management. He is a founder board member of the Sustainable Environment and Ecological Development Society (SEEDS), a professional voluntary organization working in the areas of planning and development in Asia. He is currently involved in research and education around community based programmes for management of the environment and reduction of disasters. He is a guest faculty member at Oxford Brookes University and Kyoto University.
