Bu raporda, Sivil Düşler Derneği ile Architecture Sans Frontières UK (ASF-UK) tarafından, University College London (UCL) desteğiyle ortaklaşa yürütülen Mapping the Unseen (Görünmeyeni Haritalamak) adlı araştırma projesinin sonuçlarını sunulmaktadır.
Proje, 2023 depremlerinde büyük ölçüde yitirilen Antakya’daki Dom topluluğunun yaşam çevrelerini belgelemekte ve onların yaşam biçimine dair bilgileri derleyerek, barınma hakkını gözeten adil ve kültürel olarak uygun bir yeniden yerleşim sürecini desteklemeyi amaçlamaktadır.
Kolektif hafızaları, mekânları ve gündelik pratikleri haritalayarak, rapor Dom mahallelerinin dışlanmayla özdeşleşmiş olsalar da dayanışma ve kimlikle zengin bir yapıya sahip olduğunu ve Antakya’nın toplumsal dokusunun ayrılmaz bir parçasını oluşturduğunu ortaya koymaktadır.
Bu çalışma, Dom topluluğunun kendi yaşayan mirasını onarıp geleceğe taşıyabilmesini sağlayan adil ve toplum temelli bir yeniden inşa sürecini savunmaktadır. Antakya’yı yeniden kurmak, binaları onarmanın ötesinde, kentin çok katmanlı topluluklarını bir arada tutan toplumsal bağları da onarmayı gerektirir.
A new report, The Living Heritage of Antakya’s Dom: Advocating for Adequate Housing in Reconstruction, presents the findings of the co-produced research project Mapping the Unseen, led by Architecture Sans Frontières UK (ASF-UK) and Sivil Düşler Derneği with University College London (UCL).
Conducted in 2025, the project employed co-research and co-design methods to examine the living environments of Antakya’s Dom community, many of which were destroyed in the February 2023 earthquakes in southern Türkiye. It sought to document their way of life to inform fair and culturally appropriate relocation, in line with their right to adequate housing.
By documenting collective memories, spaces, and daily practices, the report highlights how Dom neighbourhoods—once marginalised but rich in solidarity and identity—formed an integral part of Antakya’s social fabric, emphasising the importance of preserving these ways of living for the future.
The report advocates for community-led reconstruction that enables the Dom people to restore and carry forward their living heritage. It concludes that rebuilding Antakya requires not only the reconstruction of its buildings but also the strengthening of the social bonds and cultural knowledge that sustain its diverse communities, ensuring that recovery is both just and enduring.
